Tokoname dates back to the 12th century and is located in northern Japan (Aichi). It is famous throughout Japan for its clay quality.

This exceptional teapot carries the hand-chiseled signature design of pottery Master Teruyuki Isobe, called "inka" (textile printing). These delicate and eye-catching patterns make his creations so popular in Japan and overseas. Light, beautiful and easy to use, with a flat shape makes it perfect to brew for gyokuro.

Inka design implies applying first multiple layers of color to the wet clay. After letting the pot dry a little, Master Teruyuki presses the stamp pattern one by one. The number of these stamps can go from about 200 for small works to 500 for large ones. Afterwards, the tea pot is placed into the kiln and heated to temperatures reaching 750 degrees Celsius. Finally, after drying, the artist wipes the surface of the pot with a sponge to inlay the imprint patterns. A very time-consuming and complex work that goes through several processes, completely done by hand.
